The Magic of the 90's Era
I have very vivid memories of my childhood in the 90's.
First of all, you only have less than a dozen tv channels. So, everybody watches the same thing and talks about it at school the morning afterward. Parents usually watch the news, basketball, and Latin telenovelas. While we, the kids back then, are fond of anime, and metal heroes, Kamen riders and power rangers.
90's are also an odd time, it was the time where analog and digital coexists, from the recoding of cassette tapes, to burning of cds and dvds, and to digital storage. We played outdoors, got exposed to heat, rain, dirt and other elements, as well as played with Sega and Nintendo consoles, and later on PlayStation with our friends. If you have the budget, there is the local arcade, usually located a mall basement full of video games. It was heaven for an 8-year-old.
Boybands, Girl groups, Pop bands, that time was rich with culture and entertainment. Internet was still on its infancy stages, when it boomed in the late 90's everyone signed-up for yahoo and Hotmail email address. I remember when landlines where the phones, and you have to answer the phone to know the one calling. Now we have caller ids and such. And 56kbps modems, when someone calls you, the internet drops, since internet back then relied on landline too.
Everything was way simpler then. Less choices, more depth, more community. People are generally concerned about the wellbeing of each other. Values education, GMRC (Good morals and right conduct) were taught as the first class in every school day. I am fortunate to experience the 90's growing up. It was a happy time, and hopefully my children would say the same thing growing up in their own period.
Cheers and thanks for reading
