Reflecting on dad's advice

My dad is 66 years old and has overcome life's biggest challenges.

Now he is helping me overcome my own set of challenges. The preferred method of assistance is through one liner advice. You know something is wrong when my dad gives these truth-bombs.

1. Ang Masama ay Iwaksi (Evil must be rejected).

I believe this is mentioned when I'm doing things that are bad for me. For example, too much binging on food, or doing nothing, or getting angry. This is a wakeup call for me to strive on being good, and by doing good acts. There are so much evil and bad things in this world, and I wish not to be an addition to this.

2. Habang may hininga, may Pag-asa (When you're still breathing, there is still hope).

As a 41-year-old, who is behind on life, with no family, nor stable source of income, and have health issues, this one hit me hardest. It's easy to lose hope when life is not going your way. So, this mantra gives me the motivation to start again, try again, not be bothered by my age when pursuing new career directions. The only one who can fix my problems is myself, and I better start getting busy doing that.

3. Ang buhay ay simple lang (Life is simple by itself).

This advice I have trouble applying to myself, for I think life is difficult and complicated. My battle-tested dad thinks otherwise. "Life is simple, don't make it complicated". I believe that he means that overthinking things make life complex, and taking simple actions towards your problems is better than having a planning without execution. Being grateful and appreciative helps relieve stress and worry in our daily lives.

Again, thank you for reading, and sorry for the hiatus.

God Bless always,

Kirbs
